John 14: 27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
There is an earthly characteristic that most, if not all, of us will experience at some time and that is fear. Even when good and spiritual things were happening or about to happen, often our response is to be fearful. Even when angels appeared to the shepherds to herald Jesus' birth, their first reaction to the event was fear. Fear not and Have courage are common themes in the scriptures. So much of this mortal experience is scary. That is why we need to be told over and over to "fear not" and to "be of a strong courage".
